cafetiere

One of the most popular home brewing methods due to its simplicity and speed. By letting the coffee grounds immerse in water, this method gives a different extraction to others and creates a strong, bold flavour. The cafetiere is easy to use and a favourite amongst those coffee heads wanting a quick, strong, brew before dashing off to work.

v60
Large Cup | Grind: Medium | Weight: 19g | Water: 352ml | Brew Time: 3/4 minutes
The V60 is a cone dripper, allowing the coffee to filter through the cone into a cup or coffee jug. The name stems from the shape of the device which is a V shape with the cone at a 60-degree angle. Flavours from the V60 are generally bolder and can seem stronger than other methods. Swirling during the bloom, rather than stiring, can provide better tasting results. This may seem like a long winded method but within three minutes you can brew an incredibly tasty coffee.

Chemex

This iconic hourglass shaped coffee brewer uses a manual ‘pour-over’ technique, similar to the V60. But the Chemex uses a thicker material for its filters called bonded paper, which typically delivers a cleaner and brighter-tasting brew. The elegant deisgn in its heat-resistant, laboratory flask, makes you feel like you’re really delving into the science of coffee – plus, let’s face it, it looks super cool.

aeropress

The Aeropress is a great little short-brew filter device which can make a lovely coffee in under 2 minutes. It consists of a cylindrical chamber and a plunger with an airtight silicone seal. Water is forced through the filter by pressing the plunger down, producing a coffee with more body and sweetness than previous methods mentioned. A popular choice for those wanting a coffee slightly easier on the stomach as it minimizes acidity do to its quick brewing process.

espresso

The espresso is undoubtedly the titan of coffee brewing for full on, strength and flavour. Achieved best by using an espresso machine, you’ll bring a feel of professional expertise to the comfort of your own home by investing in this brew method. It creates a concentrated coffee by passing highly pressurised, hot, water through finely ground, compact, coffee beans. The aim is to acheive a 30 second extraction time through running a couple of tests whenever you get a new coffee, this process is known as ‘dialling in’. After some practice you’ll become fluent with this brewing method and on the road to creating the perfect espresso.

A stove top coffee maker, also known as a Moka pot, is a stylish piece of kit designed to enable Italians to make their own espresso quickly on the stove. It works by pushing hot water through ground coffee under steam pressure. The water will sit in the bottom pot and pass through the coffee chamber as it heats up, extracting the coffee into the top pot. The results of this method produces a strong coffee somewhere between that of an espresso and a drip coffee.
